The Department of Planning and Development assists the Mayor and Common Council in ensuring orderly growth and development in the areas of planning, zoning, community development, and economic development.  We work with residents, business owners, developers, and other local, state and federal agencies to positively affect community growth, residential growth, and economic growth

Community Development is a federally funded program operating in the City of Oneida and administered by the Community Development Office. Funds are derived from competitive grants through the United States Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD) Program activities must meet national objectives of:

a)  benefit to low and moderate income families;
b)   aid in the prevention or elimination of slums and blight; and
c)   correction of existing conditions of serious and eminent threat to the health or welfare of the community where other financial resources are not available to meet such needs.

Activities have included the following:
 
Housing Rehabilitation Grants in target neighborhoods. Affordable Housing Program for first time home buyers . Capital Improvement for parks, streets, water lines and water hydrant. Neighborhood planning  Public housing Economic development that meets program criteria primarily for the creation or retention of jobs for low and moderate income persons
