MISSION STATEMENT
The Department of Public Works' mission is to provide
reliable, responsive, and cost efficient public works
services; whether engaged in routine operations or emergency
response; in ways that promote the environment, advance
quality of life, and protect the health and safety of City
of Oneida residents and day populous without regard to race,
color, creed, national origin, personality, economic status,
or social stature.

The Office of Engineering, created in 1968, is responsible for the operation of the Department of Public Works, and Building Department. The City Engineer heads the department and is aided by two assistants. One assistant is directly in charge of the water supply and water treatment. The other assistant aids the City Engineer in the discharge of all remaining responsibilities.
The Department of Public Works is responsible for the maintenance, improvement and care of streets, highways, traffic lights/signs, storm sewers, central garage, sanitary sewers and sewage treatment, public buildings, engineering services, and mosquito control. They are also responsible for the planting, removal, and care of trees and shrubs in the City. The department is also responsible for sewer lateral repairs (in street right-of-way), Christmas tree pick up, spring cleanup, and leaves pick up.
Private sanitation engineers maintain
regular garbage collection. You may call the City Clerk's Office 363-7378, for more information on
collectors.
Services:
Green Waste Pickup - grass clippings, weeds, leaves, vines and/or twigs, not exceeding 1/2" diameter will be picked up at the curbside by department crews on a bi-weekly basis (northside/southside). Debris should be placed in clear plastic bags.
Dial-A-Truck - The department will schedule two dial-a-chipper appointments per day (Tues. - Thurs.), on a first come first serve appointment basis. Department crews will chip the brush, not exceeding 8" diameter, placed at the curbside by the resident. If specifically requested, chips will be stockpiled on the ground at the point where chipping occurs. This is a seasonal program offered from April - October.
