GRIEVANCE
The City of Oneida holds its grievance day on the 2nd Tuesday in June. The hearings are from 2-4 PM in the Court Room on the 2nd floor.(an elevator is available)
The evening session is from 7-9 PM in the Common Council Chambers.
You do not have to be present to have your assessment reviewed by the BOAR. Grievance applications must be filed at the Assessor’s office on 2nd Tuesday in June. Grievance applications are available at our office or call 363-7579.

Grievance forms with instruction booklet are available at the assessor’s office. An owner, purchaser or tenant who is required to pay the taxes pursuant to a written agreement or lease-may file a complaint.
A property owner’s grounds for complaint are: unequal assessment, excessive assessment, unlawful assessment, or misclassification.
The application must be filed with the city assessor office on or before grievance day. If you are not able to attend or do not wish to attend, please make sure the application is received by the afternoon of grievance day.
The Board of Assessment Review (BOAR) consists of five members that have a general knowledge of assessing units in the Oneida area. The meeting is an open meeting. When your turn comes to present your case comes you will be asked to present your case and answer questions. The assessor may be asked to give evidence. A decision will not be made at this time. Decisions by the BOAR are made in private at a later date.
The decisions of the BOAR are sent to the individual in time to meet the deadline for the filing of the final assessment roll, August 1.
The next step is Small Claims Assessment Review if the decision of the BOAR is not to the property owner’s satisfaction. Please inquire at the assessor’s office for more information and the proper forms. The petition must be filed within 30 days of the last date allowed by law for the filing of the final assessment roll
